LMFM Minor Championship - Round 2 (Thu 21/08/25)

Clonard 1-14 Dunderry 2-11

With Dunderry’s pitch under repair our minor lads travelled to the “neutral” venue of Cortown GFC on a balmy August evening in near perfect conditions for football. After a narrow defeat in their opening game to Round Towers & Rathkenny the lads needed something from this game and duly obliged.

The first half was a cagey affair, unsurprisingly, with potential elimination involved, but Clonard did own the majority of possession. Two 2-pointers from Kian Campbell and more points from Evan Foran and Ryan Scott, seemed to have Clonard in control but Dunderry always looked dangerous in attack and duly got their goal, and could have had another only to be denied by a great save from Clonard keeper Gavin Carney. Clonard finished the half strongly with a brilliantly worked team goal finished by Kian Campbell. The half time whistle sounded with Clonard up by two, 1-7 to 1-5.

The second half played out similar to the first with the lead swapping hands on several occasions. Then Clonard looked to have gained the advantage with several well taken frees from Bradley Begley, until another Dunderry goal brought them level.  Two more nicely taken points from Daniel Ward and midfielder Ryan Scott had Clonard two up but a late two pointer free from the ground by the Dunderry keeper earned them the draw.

Clonard did have several opportunities to win it late on but now look to the final game against Slane where a win is a must for hopeful semi final qualification. Final score Clonard 1-14 Dunderry 2-11.
